Röschitz
We invite you to an extraordinary musical and artistic evening, which will take place on Sunday, September 20, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. in the impressive premises of the church of St. Nicholas in Röschitz, Austria. In the majestic acoustics of this temple, the Thayatal Chamber Orchestra will perform under the direction of conductor Sébastien Thomas Bagnoud alongside the charismatic mezzo-soprano Barbora de Nunes-Cambraia.
The concert program will offer fascinating musical contrasts. You will hear Gustav Mahler's masterful Symphony No. 4 in Ian Farrington's unique instrumentation for chamber orchestra. This arrangement preserves the monumentality of the work, but at the same time gives it an unexpected intimacy and transparency in the sacred space. Alongside Mahler, you can look forward to the fiery temperament of French music – the famous arias Habanera and Seguidillo from Bizet's iconic opera Carmen will be performed by the soloist of the evening.
The concert will be enriched with a strong visual dimension through an exhibition of paintings by the painter Jiří Škodák. His canvases, inspired by Mahler's fourth symphony, will complete the unique atmosphere of the evening. Come and experience a deep artistic experience in which tones intermingle with colors.

- From early childhood, drawing and painting were the most popular activities. Six years at the Vocational School in Rousínov and Vyškov under the guidance of M.Sc. Neužil. Studying in the graphic field of lithographer in Brno, also matriculating at the polygraphic industrial school. Preparation for the Academy of Fine Arts by the academic painter Hegre, not accepted due to a negative political opinion. After the first exhibition in Rousínov, any further artistic activity was impossible. Studying philosophy and theology, faced with a situation before graduation: to sign cooperation with STB, otherwise no prospect of any kind of social activity. Leaving the homeland due to complicated political-clerical conditions. Finishing his studies in Rome and then returning to the graphic profession in Munich. There the first exhibitions of paintings, regular meetings with artists in the Munich residence and lectures organized by Msgr. Otto. Member of the board of the Roseninsel artistic association. Returning home and continuing artistic activity. The study of philosophy was the key to the study of theology, history, history of art, sociology, psychology... This study made it possible to be aware of subconscious or suspected phenomena and this became decisive for my work. I consider it necessary that we do not lose our relationship with nature. The landscape is a meditation space for me. That is why there are no disturbing elements, including humans, who have already caused and are causing damage to the ecology of the landscape. I leave only architecture as an activity of the human spirit. I want to reach today's people with my work. "Man, pause, be quiet, look around you and think! Where are you rushing? What are you chasing? What are you striving for? What are you doing with your environment?" skodak.weebly.com

The Lower Austrian town of Röschitz is located in the gently undulating landscape of the western Weinviertel, a region renowned for its rich, centuries-old winemaking tradition. The natural spiritual and architectural dominant of this picturesque village is the Roman Catholic parish church dedicated to Saint Nicholas (Pfarrkirche hl. Nikolaus), whose tower is visible from afar. The history of the local parish is closely connected with the history of the entire village, and the original sacral building has undergone a number of architectural changes over the centuries. The current form of the church bears significant traces of the Baroque reconstruction, which gave the interior a typical lightness and monumentality, while it still preserves valuable historical furniture. A visit to the church in Röschitz is ideally combined with getting to know the local folklore - the ancient wine alleys (Kellergassen) are inherent to the village. The biggest local rarity is the so-called Weberkeller, an extensive and hand-dug cellar labyrinth, the walls of which are decorated with elaborate reliefs carved directly into loess clay.
